Gleasondale (a.k.a. Randall's Mill and Rock Bottom) Gleasondale has a long and illusus history as a major milling center in New England. The first mill and dam - for grist and lumber - in what is now Gleasondale was built by Ebenezer Graves prior to 1750. The dam was located 80 to 100 feet downstream from the current dam.

In 1849 the mill was purchased by Benjamin W. Gleason and Dale. They expanded operations, and replaced the waterwheel with a more efficient turbine. Then, disaster stuck!

Gleasondale Mill- Although a textile mill was in operation at Rock Bottom on the Assabet River as early as 1813, it prospered during and following the Civil War. Workers' Housing- Worker's Housing lined the road through the little village along with owners' more elegant mansions. Some of each still stand and serve as private residences.
